Pi Upsilon

The men that would become the Founders of Pi Upsilon Chapter, at University of Michigan - Dearborn, came together as a service and interest group known as the Alpha Men Of Tomorrow club. The group was founded in the fall of 1984 with ten African-American men. Over time and with the blessings of the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, eight men were initiated into Gamma Lambda [ΓΛ] Chapter in Detroit, Michigan, crossing the burning sands July 18, 1985 among a pledge line of 22 total aspirants. These men were known as "Catch 22". In April, 1986, the "Underground 8" were granted charter to Pi Upsilon [ΠΥ] Chapter at the University of Michigan - Dearborn.

 

In the fall of 2004, interest in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incoporated, was beginning to grow at the University of Detroit Mercy. On November 6, 2004, the charter was expanded to UDM, and Bro. Lawrence I. Manning was initiated into ΠΥ as the first brother under this expanded charter. The charter also expanded In the year 2010 at Marygrove College. On May 7, 2011 brothers William T. Bassett and Eric Fowlkes were initiated into the now Tri-Charter Pi Upsilon chapter of Alpha.

 

The Progressively Unique Pi Upsilon chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha continues to serve its community through manly deeds, scholarship, and having love for all mankind!
